Woman Who Raised 3 Tamagotchis, 10 Furbys and Sea-Monkeys During The 90s Opens Up About Having Dependents At Age 7

LISA'S HOUSE — Local resident, Lisa Ashberry, opened up recently about having a full list of dependents at age 7, which included 3 Tamagotchis, 10 Furbys and an aquarium of Sea-Monkeys in 1998.

"Ahh yes," said Lisa fondly, “I forgot I was once a parent at age 7,” continued Lisa as she dug an old Furby out of a shoebox, "while everyone else was busy reading The Boxcar Children I was a single mom raising a family. I had a key chain of dependents hooked on my backpack everyday. Plus, 10 Furbys and the Sea-Monkeys waiting at home."

Lisa recalled the toll the parenting took on her second grade school/life balance.

"I used to have to skip pop quizzes on the alphabet to make sure my Tamagotchis were fed, and then I'd go home after a long day of second grade and be kept up 'til 7:30 p.m. (which was an hour past my bedtime) by the Furbys, who came to life after dark like Gremlins just to stare aimlessly with their eyes wide open like they just drank an espresso."

Lisa went on saying she almost resorted to hiring a full-time nanny but had to cancel when she found out that cost money.

"I called up a nanny so I could have a couple nights to myself to watch Nickelodeon but hung up the phone as soon as the nanny quoted me $20 an hour. For $20 I could've gotten like 20,000 more Sea-Monkeys.”

Eventually, Lisa said she grew out of parenting once the Furbys and Tamagotchis ran out of batteries at which point she was able to regain some sense of normalcy around third grade as the Sea-Monkeys required “little-to-no parenting and minimal supervision.”
